Transitioning from the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH)

The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH) will close permanently on 1 July 2026. After 11:59 pm AEST on 30 June 2026, you will no longer be able to log in, submit super payment instructions, or access records in the SBSCH.

For background and planning support, see our earlier article  Your Guide to the ATO Super Clearing House Closure.

Key Dates

February–March 2026: Get ready

  • Select an alternative super payment provider to replace the SBSCH.
  • Seek professional advice if required.

April 2026: Make your final SBSCH payment

  • Plan to use the SBSCH for the final time.

May–June 2026: Prepare to use your alternative provider

  • Download employee payment transaction records before 30 June 2026.
  • Download employee details before 30 June 2026.
  • Stop using the SBSCH and test your new super payment method.

July 2026: Use your alternative provider to pay super

  • Use your new provider to pay any outstanding super for the April–June quarter, due 28 July 2026.
  • From 1 July 2026, pay super on each payday instead of quarterly, in line with Payday Super requirements.

 Alternatives to the SBSCH

Employers can check with their existing payroll software to see if it already includes super functions to pay SG. Alternatively, they can look for payroll software and service providers using the ATO’s SuperStream Product register. Some large super funds may also have online payment services you can use, or you could use a commercial Clearing House. For more details, see the ATO’s guidance on SuperStream for employers.

When should employers switch?

The ATO recommends switching to an alternative method as soon as possible. Switching early gives employers enough time to download and store SBSCH records before the service closes.

Employers should treat the January–March 2026 quarter as the final quarter for submitting instructions and making payments through the SBSCH. After 11:59 pm AEST on 30 June 2026, all SBSCH logins will be disabled and records will no longer be accessible.

Records employers must download

Before 1 July 2026, employers must download their full SBSCH transaction history. Once the SBSCH closes, these records will be permanently unavailable.

Employers should download and securely store:

  • Employee payment transaction history
  • Employee details

Keep these records protected from fire, theft, and water damage. You may need them later to respond to ATO audits or employee enquiries.
