Time Is Running Out for Small Business Super Clearing House Users

If your business uses the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House (SBSCH), you need to take action now. The service will permanently close on 1 July 2026. From that date, the SBSCH will stop processing super payments and remove all access to historical records.

The government is closing the SBSCH as part of its payday super reforms, which aim to modernise the way employers pay superannuation.

The ATO recommends using the January–March 2026 quarter as your final quarter on the SBSCH, giving your business time to set up a new super payment process before the deadline.

What small businesses should do now

Your immediate priorities should include:

Choose an alternative super payment method
Check whether your current payroll software already supports superannuation payments. Many modern payroll systems offer built‑in super payment features that comply with SuperStream requirements. You can also use a commercial super clearing house or an online payment service provided by some large super funds.

Download your SBSCH records before 1 July 2026
This step is critical. Once the SBSCH closes, you will permanently lose access to transaction histories and employee super details. You’ll need these records to respond to employee queries and meet audit or compliance requirements.

Switch early to avoid late payment risks
By transitioning to a new system well before the deadline, you can establish a reliable process and reduce the risk of late super payments for the April–June 2026 quarter.

Finding the right super payment solution

The ATO’s SuperStream Product Register lists certified payroll software and service providers that can process super payments. Many solutions offer added benefits such as automated calculations, compliance reporting, and integration with existing accounting systems.

Large super funds often provide online employer payment portals, while commercial clearing houses deliver services similar to the SBSCH, often with additional features and ongoing support.

Choosing the right super payment solution depends on your business size, payroll complexity, and existing systems. This transition also creates an opportunity to review and strengthen your overall payroll and superannuation compliance processes.
